Imagine a city where getting around is cheap, convenient,
sustainable and healthy for everyone… a city where all residents are
guaranteed a home, regardless of their social status or income level.
Imagine
a city that embraced deliberative democracy, and gave local residents
more power to decide how their neighbourhoods change and evolve, while
respecting Indigenous sovereignty and working towards truth-telling,
reparations, land rights and treaties.
Imagine a
city where neighbours know, trust and support each other, and
well-supported community groups connect us together, providing services,
projects and events that actually meet people’s needs…
Such
a city is not only possible, but already slowly becoming a reality.
Please come along on Saturday, 30 November to join us for a day of
scheming and dreaming.
We’ll be hosting talks and
forums from experts in a range of fields, from housing to transport to
the arts to climate change adaptation, as well as facilitating open
discussions and collective visioning exercises so you can tell Jonno
(and each other) what’s important to you.
We’re also
making space for local community groups to set up stalls, connect with
residents and let them know what you do. (Send us a message if you’d
like to host a stall)
We want to hear from you! The
discussions and ideas generated through the visioning workshops will
directly feed into Jonno’s policy advocacy strategy.
Food: vegetarian lunch and afternoon tea provided.
Accessibility:
wheelchair accessible, disabled and ambulatory access bathrooms
available, all bathrooms will be gender-neutral. If you require AUSLAN
interpretation or child minding, please advise us and we will do our
best to accommodate this.
Child care: we provide a free child care and children activities program, please sign up ahead on the link below. The form gives more details about age suitability if you have any questions please call or email the gabba ward office 3403 2165 or thegabba.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au

Hi everyone,
For those of you who haven’t heard yet, it’s my sad duty to notify you that respected Aboriginal elder Uncle Sam Watson passed away yesterday.
As such, we’ve made the difficult decision today to postpone this weekend’s Reimagine Brisbane conference, with the exception of two sessions either side of lunch.
Uncle Sam was scheduled to speak at the morning plenary session of the conference this Saturday.
We’ve decided to reschedule the conference to 1 February out of respect to his family, and also because we feel it is important that First Nations voices are prioritised and well-represented in conversations about the future of our city.
We will still go ahead with holding smaller sessions this Saturday at 11am and 1pm covering the ‘Homes For All’ and ‘Truly Inclusive Transport’ topics, featuring some of the speakers we’ve previously advertised. These sessions will take place at Jagera Hall as programmed. Free lunch will still be provided, as will free childcare if required.
The updated program for this Saturday, (30 November) will be as follows:
11am – Intro, Acknowledgment of Country and Moment’s Silence for Uncle Sam Watson
11:15am to 12:30pm – ‘A Home For All’ featuring Dave Eden and Penny Carr (Tenants QLD)
12:30 to 1pm – free vegetarian lunch
1pm to 2pm – ‘Truly Inclusive Transport’ featuring Geoff Trappett (Inclusion Moves), Anna Campbell (Queensland Walks), Susanna Viles and Kath Angus.
Venue remains Jagera Hall, 121 Cordelia St, Musgrave Park. Both sessions will take place indoors in the main hall.
The other activities, forums, workshops and outdoor stalls will not take place this weekend, and will instead be rescheduled for 1 February (details and venue TBC).
It’s important to us that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a meaningful opportunity to participate in discussions about the city’s future, and when the local community is in mourning and unable to attend, we feel it wouldn’t be appropriate to hold these conversations without them.
Thanks for understanding. Please forward this email to anyone else you know who might have been planning to attend this weekend.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office on 3403 2165.
Warm regards,
Jonno Sri
