Who thinks Brisbane needs more street trees? WE DO!

That’s why we’re holding another community tree planting event on Saturday, 27 April, this time in Woolloongabba.

From 9am to noon, residents are invited to come help us plant street trees around the southern half of Woolloongabba. We’ll be meeting at the small park on Sword Street to pick up equipment, before heading off to get our hands dirty (dirty hands optional – gloves provided). Council is providing shovels and other gardening equipment, but please bring your own hat, closed-in shoes and sunscreen. As well as planting trees, we might organise a few people to pick up rubbish and help clean up the streets if we have enough volunteers.

Legendary Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil has spent his adult life trying to navigate his way through two very different cultures: that of his Yolngu people and that of the colonising Australian culture. In Another Country, he gives us first-hand insight into the confusions and chaos that occur in the clash between these cultures.

At the beginning of last century the Australian Government, along with entrepreneurs, opportunists and ‘do-gooders’, made a concerted effort to gain control of the lands of the Yolngu people across northern Arnhem Land, along the central part of northern Australia. The long succession of would-be cattle barons, missionaries and government agents failed to dispossess the Yolngu of their lands, but the introduction of their new ways and different laws succeeded in eroding the heart of a complex culture that was once strong, defiant and self-sufficient.

Another Country is a documentary which considers, from the inside, the ramifications of one culture being dominated by another.

/// This is an invitation to participate in an open community, helping create a monthly space for depth, meeting, transformation and the pure joy of being.

We gather every month to drink tea, eat baked goods and relate to friends and strangers.

/// Who is authentic relating for?

IF:
– You want to learn how to interact with others while being fully yourself.
– You want to meet people who are also interested in living authentically.
– And simply want to experience joy in existence.
THEN … this evening could be for you.

This evening is about exploring, experiencing, experimenting and being present with each other.

In order to explore, experience and experiment with being present, we use ‘Authentic Relating’ Games. These are small games that allow us to experience the dimensions and possibilities of connection.

Price: A donation of $10 OR you can pay by bringing a plate of homemade biscuits/baked goods.

What do you get?
. A chill evening.
. Deep encounters with people
. New understandings and personal ‘aha’ moments.
. And new tools to take this depth into your everyday life.

Looking forward to meeting you! Please share this event with friends who would be interested.

Libby Connors presents on her book “Warrior” and local surrounds

The Northey Street City Farm Decolonisation Action Group are pleased to announce that Guest Speaker Libby Connors will be at the Farm on the 2nd of May.

Libby is the author of the book “Warrior: A Legendary Leader’s Dramatic Life and Violent Death on the Colonial Frontier”, which presents a fascinating story of one of the great Aboriginal resistance fighters of the colonial frontier and a compelling portrait of life in early Brisbane. We have asked Libby to speak on her book and also highlight any information she has garnered through her research about Northey Street City Farm’s land and surrounds.

A potluck dinner will be shared at 6.30pm for a start at 7pm.You are receiving this email because you subscribed to the BREAD email list.
