Open Letter to Sydney Morning Herald
Dear Sir,
Your editorial “Netanyahu ill-advised to dash hopes for peace” (March 26) omits any mention of Israel’s violations of international law and disregard for 66 UN resolutions (95 without the US veto). Israeli historian, Ilan Pappe, has shown that from 1948 the Zionist objective was the ethnic cleansing of Palestine to create “a land without a people for a people without a land”. The Deir Yassin massacre of 250 people was the catalyst for the exodus of 800,000 Palestinians who fled in terror. Plan Dalet is still the modus operandi of the Israeli state which is moving aggressively to its ultimate objective of a Jewish Eretz (greater) Israel. From an Israeli perspective, the decades of peace negotiations are just a smokescreen and an opportunity to create more time to build ever more settlements so that now a future Palestinian state will have only 11% of the land area. If the world is serious about ending the occupation of Palestine then it must positively respond to the Palestinian call for a cultural, economic and academic boycott of Israel to force it to choose law and order rather than chaos.
