The family of Australian journalist Peter Greste can confirm he has been released from jail in Cairo and has now left Egypt.
Andrew Greste “We’re ecstatic that Peter has been released and we now ask if the world could respect his privacy, to give him time to appreciate his freedom before he faces the media”.
Peter’s parents Lois and Juris, and brother Andrew will hold a press conference in Brisbane later this morning, at which time they will provide more information.
After the media conference, Lois, Juris and Andrew will be available for a limited number of one-on-one interviews with those who are unable to attend.
The Greste family ask if journalists could please respect Peter’s privacy, by allowing him a few days to decompress before he faces the media.
