The first meeting of the 17 Group for the year 2012 will be held in unit 6 at 20 Drury St, West End on Wednesday the 1st of February at 7pm. The speaker will be Drew Hutton, national president of the Lock the Gate Alliance, and he will lead off a discussion on the mining boom and the current coal seam gas issue.

Topic
The green-farmer alliance against coal and coal seam gas and why the mining boom is bad for the Australian economy

Bio
Drew Hutton is a long-term environmental and social justice activist. He was a founder of both the Queensland and Australian Greens in the early nineties and in more recent times has become a spokesperson for Friends of the Earth (Aust) and the national president of the Lock the Gate Alliance. He pioneered the alliance between rural landowners and predominantly urban environmentalists that has locked the gate on coal and coal seam gas companies attempting to force their way on to farm land, especially in Queensland and NSW, and his alliance is currently blockading attempts by these companies to come into communities where they are not wanted.

Our people got in touch with Trotskys people about a possible presence of the great man, not for the first time. Its as chancy as usual.

They were shown an enigmatic and typically ambiguous note in his hand that had been left on his desk:

Leon Davidovich is out and about.
