The line-up of Jumping Fences is: Sue Monk (guitar and vocals), Lachlan Hurse (bass), Ross Gwyther (tenor sax and clarinet), James Harper (percussion) and Dan Simpson (drums). Our repertoire features original and Latin American songs that explore the intersection of art and social commentary that has characterised much of music in Brisbane for many years.
Our guests artists for October:
Muddy Tutu is Helen Cartan, Kath Lloyd and Christine Grodd. They began singing together in vocal ensemble The Esplanados and have performed separately in Marmalady, Mambo Jambo and A Love Supreme. With and without acoustic accompaniment they weave their voices to create an eclectic mix of original songs, pretty but not too precious. Come jump in a puddle of down-to-earth whimsy with Muddy Tutu!
Unsung Heroes: comprising Sue Wighton’s lead vocals & guitar, plus fiddle, mandolin and bass, the band plays a rich mix of Sue’s original tunes, traditional favourites and covers. Sue’s versatile vocal style is complimented by the impeccable harmonies and mandolin of Ian Dodd. With Luke Moller (the ‘baby’ of the group) adding depth and colour with his fearless fiddle playing, and John Barton’s smooth bass providing the heartbeat, Unsung Heroes guarantees a dynamic, contemporary, heartfelt performance.
Foco Nuevo is a reference to Brisbane’s FOCO Club, a lively and alternative performance space which ran on a weekly basis during the late 1960s.
Hope to see you there,
Lachlan and Sue
