Jagera Hall, 121 Cordelia St, South Brisbane (light afternoon tea)
Express your views on how the Queensland Government is going to distribute the remaining $35million of the $55.4 million Indigenous Wages and Savings Reparation Scheme.
1. They plan to pay an extra $3,000 and $1,500 to existing successful claimants starting in late May.
2. They have also decided to put any money left after these payments (approximately $20million) into a Trust Fund for educational opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
3. They are NOT allowing the 3,200 people whose claims were knocked back due to missing documents to put in a claim backed by Affidavits. They are NOT re-opening the offer for those who refused to consider a $4,000 payment but might have considered $7000.
4. They are not allowing people whose parents worked for wages but died before they could make a claim, to put in a claim as their heirs.
And discuss where to go from here…
