Interview with Mr Tonous Abboot (aka Tony Abbott), leader of the federal coalition. [broadcast on Paradigm Shift 4zzz fm 102.1 friday 9 aug 2013 at noon]
PShift: Mr Abboot, can you tell the listeners why they should vote for the coalition on the coming 7 September election.
Tonous Abboot: At this election, your listeners will have the opportunity to make a real change. The policies of Labor will produce 800 thousand people out of work next year.
PShift: But didn’t the unemployment rate just fall from 6.3% to 5.9% in Queensland because of a rebound in housing and construction in Brisbane and the Gold Coast?
Tonous Abboot: The coalition will deliver a stronger more diverse economy with more opportunity and two million more jobs.
PShift: Isn’t that just code for saying that you will get rid of unions and make people work longer and harder for less money while business makes more profit?
Tonous Abboot: Over the past three years, my colleagues and I have travelled around Australia listening and talking with people about their lives, families and hopes for our country. They do not want Labor’s class war.
PShift: But, Mr Abboot, didn’t Campbell Newman just sack 14 thousand public servants in Queensland?
Abboot: Campbell Newman was forced to do that because of Labor’s excesses under Peter Beattie and Anna Bligh.
PShift: But didn’t Beattie and Bligh amalgamate shire councils in Queensland and privatise Queensland Rail thus destroying local jobs in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Boonah?
Abboot: Precisely, this is one reason that listeners should not vote for Peter Beattie in the electorate of Forde in the coming federal election.
PShift: Isn’t it the coalition’s aim to bring in austerity measures now that the boom in mining exports to China have slowed?
Abboot: It is Our Plan to build a strong, prosperous economy and a safe, secure Australia and introduce a paid parental leave scheme far more generous than Labor’s
PShift: How are you going to pay for the Paid Parental Leave scheme while you are cutting income tax, company tax and getting rid of the carbon tax?
Abboot: We are going to achieve that through stronger budget management and less waste.
PShift: Isn’t that code for sacking public servants?
Abboot: No it means that we will be a united team that will build more modern roads to improve our transport system, we will secure our borders and, once again, stop the boats.
PShift: Wasn’t it the policies of the Howard coalition government to participate in the oil wars of the United States that produced the need for people in Iraq and Afghanistan to seek refuge elsewhere?
Abboot: The coalition supports a modest intake of refugees through the proper processes and in an orderly queue, I have the greatest respect for our moderate Islamic friends in western Sydney.
PShift: I think we will have to leave it there. That was Mr Tonous Abboot, leader of the federal coalition.
Please note that material for this interview was taken from election advertising delivered to my house yesterday on behalf of the Liberal National Party. The leader of the Coalition, Tony Abbott, signed the letter. Thanks to Uncle Tonous for letting PShift know how Tony Abbott is referred to in Western Sydney. It would be a horrible irony if Tony Abbott were to become Prime Minister on the strength of the vote for the coalition in Western Sydney.
