Liberals Shun forum on Higher Education

Both the sitting Liberal (now independent) Michael Johnson and the new Liberal candidate for Ryan, Jane Prentice did not take part in the policy forum on Higher Education.

The president of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) UQ branch Andrew Bonnell said that perhaps the Liberals didn’t turn up because they have not released a higher education policy in the 2010 election (so far).

View his introductory comments as Andrew welcomes the ALP and Greens candidates. Bonnell says that he does not recall ever having a Liberal turn up.

Sandra Bayley (Greens) points out that only 0.7% of GDP is spent on higher education and that funding fell by 30% during the Howard years.

Sandra spoke about student support, higher education workforce and research.

Sandra grew up in Brisbane and attended the Gap High School (a public education), she attended the University of Qld about 40 years ago and later gained degree in Medicine at Newcastle University.
