Academics at the University of Queensland have begun industrial action in a
campaign for better pay and conditions.
Lecturers and professional staff have voted in support of work bans and stoppages.
The National Tertiary Education Union says there has been little progress in year-long negotiations for a new enterprise agreement (EBA).
Union spokesman Andrew Bonnell says if there is no breakthrough the industrial action will escalate in the new year.
“Whereas the University of Queensland ranks in the top three in the country on most rankings, the staff are only paid about 23rd in the country,” he said.

ACTU Secretary Jeff Lawrence addressed an NTEU rally at the Michie Amphitheatre on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 1pm.
Members and students came along to hear Jeff talk about the re-election of a Labor government for a second term.
The stop work was about Higher Education and NTEU members starting industrial action in support of a collective agreement for better wages for UQ staff. Local media and TV networks were in attendance and a good crowd turned up. Support the NTEU collective agreement!
