2. Call for Peace in the Pacific one-day conference in Brisbane

The 2023 Talisman Sabre military exercises will be held over a 2-week period between 22nd July and 4th August. More than 30000 personnel will participate from at least 12 nations. The exercises will involve an airborne drop, mass amphibious landings, live missile firing and submarine hunting; the battle field stretching from Western Australia, across the NT and Queensland and as far south as Jervis Bay in NSW.

The speaking tour and conference are timed to bring attention to the Talisman Sabre exercises and to the lived experience of people in the Pacific whose lands have been used to base US military forces and prepare for war.

The IPAN sponsored speakers are Monaeka Flores from Guahan and Shinako Oyakawa from Okinawa. Representatives from other Pacific countries also intend attending through their own funding.

The aim for this project is to raise awareness within Australia and the Pacific region of the full impacts of allowing the US to base their forces and materiel on the lands by sharing the experiences of Pacific

People including:
1. Complicity in wars of aggression
2. Becoming a target in the event of war
3. Loss of sovereignty
4. First people’s lands disregarded damaged and disrespected
5. Environmental damage
6. Economic drain
7. Sidelining of national legal system
8. Impacts on women and girls

Thursday 28th July- Speakers arrive in Brisbane

Friday 28th- meetings with government faith groups and trade unions

Saturday 29th – Conference Call for Peace in the Pacific

Sunday 30th – Morning Peace action

Monday 31st – Sydney events- Public meeting 

Tuesday 1st fly to Canberra – Public meeting ANU
Wednesday 2nd Canberra meetings with politicians’ Indigenous representatives and others

Thursday 3rd- fly to Darwin- local events and public meeting

Friday 4th- meetings with politicians’ Indigenous representatives and others and action

Saturday 5th leave Australia
