Thanks to all who supported my election as a member of the University of Queensland Senate, and my respects to all who took part in this democratic process.
Just under 3500 ballots were cast, with 124 candidates contesting the three positions.
The preferential system was used with candidates eliminated over 61 counts.
As could be expected the votes were fairly widely distributed, though in the primary count three candidates received more than the mean of 152 votes. Two of those were eventually elected (Atkinson, Duffield), one overtaken in the count of preferences.
Finally elected, in order:
Sallyanne Atkinson, former Lord Mayor of Brisbane.
Lee Duffield, candidate for more collegiate university management, less corporatisation.
Mellissa Naidoo, a doctor and medical executive with the Australian Digital Health Agency.
To me being elected to such a position is an honour and a signal to make an honest contribution.
