Are Native Animals to be Extinct?

I used to do a sea-grass survey in Quandamooka (Moreton Bay) and the CSIRO say numbers of Dugong are on the increase.

This may be due to the Marine Park established in the southern part of the bay. I used to see Dugong out near Tangalooma in the early 1970s and, back then, they seemed to be in decline.

When I was on the sea grass survey around 2010, we would see Dugong out near Minjerribah (Straddie).

So Native animals may not be on a path to extinction, but they do need protection by keeping the sea grass alive where they feed.
