Transfield Carols this Thursday 17th!

Love Makes a Way would like to invite you to a Carols Service at Broadspectrum (Transfield).

WHEN: 5pm (sharp) to 6pm on 17 Dec. 2015. (This is a slight change from the 4pm start advertised in last week’s email update).

WHERE: Out the front of Broadspectrum (Transfield) Offices – 509 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne

WHAT: Singing Christmas Carols and following a simple Christmas liturgy that tells the story of Christmas

DRESS CODE: Smart casual, Clergy please wear whatever marks you in your role. If you have a LMAW t-shirt, feel free to wear that. Children may dress up as members of the nativity

BRING: your singing voice, instruments if you are willing to accompany carols, signs that call Broadspectrum to stop their involvement in detaining children and their families, or signs that bring light to the Christmas story like “Jesus was a refugee” or “Christmas is a time to welcome”

We are getting excited for our Carols for Compassion service this Thursday! The invitation & details are below.

If you would like, you can make a sign to bring. To keep our action clear we would appreciate you using one of the following messages:

BABY JESUS WAS A REFUGEE
WOULD YOU SEND BABY JESUS TO NAURU?

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME FOR WELCOME
LOVE MAKES A WAY AT THE INN

BRING PEACE TO ASYLUM SEEKERS

We would also like to make clear that this is NOT going to be a civil disobedience action; in the case of being asked to move away by police we will do so peacefully and walk together as a group around the outside of the office building to continue in the large public park at the back.

Please be encouraged to bring friends of any faith, so long as they are prepared to keep the nonviolent and peaceful spirit of Love Makes A Way actions.

Attached is a copy of the liturgy including songs which is available to be downloaded on smartphones to read. There will also be some hard copies to share

We look forward to spending time with you all in song as we reflect, pray and lament over the way our nation treats people who seek its protection.

May peace be with you and your families in this Christmas season!

The Love Makes A Way Victoria team. You may invite others if they are committed to nonviolently calling for change in Australia’s actions toward asylum seekers

We will not be entering the buildings but will remain out the front hoping to draw the attention of staff as they leave work and passers by on St Kilda Rd.

If you are planning to come please let us know via the facebook event or email us so that we can pass any more info on to you

The list of songs we will be singing is:

O Come All ye faithful

O Come O come Emmanuel

Ding Dong Merrily on high

The first Noel

Away in a manger

Silent Night

The Angel Gabriel to Mary came

Once in Royal David’s City

Joy to the world

This event will be one of many Carols services held by Love Makes A Way across the country during December.

Thank you and we look forward to singing with you on the 17th of December!
