the struggle for the block continues as a meeting between both parties was aborted because of media being present at the supposedly secret venue.

mick mundine of the aboriginal housing company and others had wanted a private meeting with aunt jenny munro and the other representatives but he had set conditions for what was to be a private meeting at a secret location but this did not work out when at least 3 media groups set up outside the secret venue.

the meeting was aborted and a new meeting arranged. all media are strongly urged to respect the conditions of the next meeting and to await the call for a media conference to be called. recognition must occur that they need to respect the conditions of the meeting for the needed discussions to be progressed to a point between the two parties that will allow decisions, possibly, to be made.

until that meeting is held it is believed that the embassy will be safe from eviction.

due to medical procedures tomorrow wednesday i will not be able to attend the embassy until some time in the afternoon.

Defiant Redfern tent embassy ignores eviction notice

MEMBERS of Redfern’s Aboriginal Tent Embassy say they will have to be physically removed from a site marked for a multi-million dollar redevelopment.

The Aboriginal Housing Corporation issued the group with an eviction notice on Friday, ordering them to leave the inner Sydney area known as The Block on Monday.

It’s the corporation’s latest bid to evict the group, which it accuses of trespassing on its land since the embassy was established last May.

“They will have to move us physically,” she said in a statement.

Ms Munro said the eviction was part of an attempt to push Aboriginal people out of Redfern.
