Rally at PNG Consulate! Close Manus Island

Close Manus Island! Rally at Papua-New Guinea Consulate.

When: 12 noon – 1pm, Tuesday, 12th February.
Where: Footpath outside Papua-New-Guinea Consulate, 320 Adelaide St, Brisbane (near Wharf St).

This is the day proceedings will commence in the Papua-New Guinea courts to argue that the Manus Island detention centre is illegal under PNG law.

We in RAC want to make our statement, to the PNG government, to the Australian government, and also to the lunchtime shoppers of Brisbane, that not all Australians are in support of the dirty deal pushed onto the PNG government by the Australian government, to create a place of suffering at Manus Island in return for lots of money going to the PNG government. To let them all know that we hope that the lawsuit to close Manus Island will be successful. If it is successful, in our eyes that will be a magnificant outcome.

Please, all refugee supporters, come along and join us if you can.

And a reminder about our organising meeting…

6.30pm, Wednesday, 6th February, at 2nd floor, TLC Building, 16 Peel St, South Brisbane. All refugee supporters welcome.

    Dear all,

How optimistic were we, today five years ago, when Nauru was closed. See the link below – SBS Radio commemorates the closure. There
    is a transcript and podcast.
