Please note that Elena and José have gone on a holiday and we won’t have our usual Chilean empanadas.

The Poachers Brisbane trio The Poachers – Penny Boys, vocals; Andrew Heath, guitar; Cathy Bell, fiddle/accordion/harmony vocals – began playing music together in 1998, releasing a critically-acclaimed CD in 2000, and have recently returned to the music scene after an 8-year hiatus whilst they were living on different continents.

Their set list spans traditional English and Irish ballads presented with fresh innovative arrangements, new interpretations of contemporary folk songs from America, the UK and Australia, and a few trad-inspired originals thrown in for good measure. They have recently performed at Neurum Creek and Maldon Folk Festivals and will be appearing at the Duck at Woodford this year.

Ishka is a four-piece song and dance band with a versatile repertoire from both Irish & Scottish traditions plus modern Australian/Celtic Folk, Rock & Fusion. From Bernadette Gill’s soaring vocals to the tight melding of folk instruments (bodhran, mandolin, fiddle, concertina, whistle and bagpipes), Ishka provides a consummate Celtic sound. The set will contain original material and clever new arrangements of great folk standards.

Jumping Fences: the song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk, play a unique mix of original and Latin American songs, bridging the gap between Australian and World music. Their songs, heard from Brisbane factories to concerts in Havana, have evocative lyrics with compelling vocals and rhythm to match. We’ll be playing with Ross Gwyther on sax and clarinet, Robbie Stewart on lead guitar and our percussion team; James Harper and Dan Simpson. [website]

Hope to see you  there,

Lachlan and Sue
