FOCO NUEVO in January 2009
Welcome back to Foco Nuevo for 2009!
This month we’re happy to return to Ahimsa House to continue our series of informal concerts.
Jumping Fences will be playing in their full line-up of: Sue Monk (guitar and vocals), Lachlan Hurse (bass), Ross Gwyther (tenor sax and clarinet), James Harper (percussion) and Dan Simpson (drums); bringing their unique mix of original and Latin American songs [website].
Our guests artists for January:
Noel Gardner and Alex Bridge are a talented and engaging duo from Maleny, who sing heartfelt
With Alex blending her sweet tight harmonies and acoustic bass, their music is guaranteed to move and entrance you. [website]
Sue Wighton began her singing career like many other Brisbane musicians in the ‘70’s – as part of the folk scene at Brisbane’s Folk Centre. Sue’s on stage presence, either as a solo singer/guitarist or with a band – and her unique blend of wit and warmth, humour and style – makes her a consummate entertainer. Her original songs alternate between self deprecation, wry observation, and sharp social comment. Her honesty in performance cuts right to the heart of any song she sings – whatever the idiom.
Foco Nuevo is a reference to Brisbane’s FOCO Club, a lively and alternative performance space which ran on a weekly basis during the late 1960s.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Lachlan and Sue
