May Day at home

The measures taken to control the COVID-19 pandemic were felt across our union and solidarity movement as our annual Brisbane Labour Day march was cancelled, and we had to celebrate the International Day of the Workers in our own homes.

Nevertheless members could not let the day pass without sharing their message of solidarity through social media. In Brisbane Sue and I hung our ACFS banner from the verandah railing and put the photos on Facebook, where we received more than the usual number of likes and shares.

Other members of the ACFS did similar things to ensure our message of solidarity with the Cuban people and their revolution was heard loud and clear. Similarly in Cuba the annual May Day celebrations took a distinct turn with the message #micasaesmiplaza (My house is my Plaza).

Our Branch has remained active during the lock-down, within the constraints of the social distancing measures introduced to control COVID-19.

We are meeting via Zoom and building our solidarity efforts, including the campaign to send medical aid to Cuba to help in its battle against the pandemic.

If you would like to participate in the meetings, or get more involved in ACFS please email Lachlan Hurse, ACFS Brisbane Branch President to add your support to our solidarity movement.
