Trenchant critic gets Order of Australia medal

Pamela Curr has received an Order of Australia Medal in the 2019 Invasion Day list.

Pamela has spent the last 40 years fighting for the most marginalised in society, more than 10 of those years were at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre fighting for refugees in detention.

“She hasn’t stopped till this day, a National bloody treasure she is!” said one supporter for refugee rights.

When asked why Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, would authorise a AO medal to be given to one of his most trenchant critics, Pamela Curr said:

“It is pretty obvious that the government has not got a clue of what it is doing.”

The government has listed Ms Pamela CURR, Brunswick Victoria for service to the community through support for refugees.

• Advocate, Fair Wear, 5 years.

Awards and recognition

• Who’s Who of Australian Women, 2010.

• Victorian Women’s Honour Roll.

Not surprisingly the official record omitted probably the most important award given to Pamela Curr:

• Eureka Invasion Day medal awarded by by anarchist Dr Joe Toscano in Ballarat in the early 2000s.

When hearing about the award, a government spokesperson may well have said:
“It is an important award that many people get, but it is not of the highest rung”.
As a proud brother all I can say is “Onya, Pam!”
