‘Making welfare great again’?

This tongue-in-cheek slogan ended up a highly successful day for the anti-poverty network in Brisbane. After only one year of operation, they managed to pull off a well attended conference called “we deserve a living: no excuse for poverty”.

I attended three sessions:

1) The impact of in the NDIS and what all alternatives we need by Nicole Laffoley.

2) The prison system and poverty by Marissa Dorris (from the Sisters Inside)

3) The closing session: Antipoverty work across Australia by Jayden Oxton-White, Hannah Rowles and Pas Forgione.

In the coming days, WBT will publish notes from the conference, sound and interviews.
