Last night I talked thru text with a man on Nauru in the single men’s camp.
He explained that not everyone was allowed out yesterday in the new Open Camp rule.
Only those who are already authorised may go.
For the others. They must seek an appointment with a case manager to apply. Then they must do a “training” on nauru laws then sign a paper provided by the police then wait 2 weeks for permission to come to leave the camp.
There are 6 minibuses contains seats for 18 people available for camp movements.
The camp is 30-45 minutes from the township by bus.
It takes approximately 75-90 minutes to walk in the hot sun depending on fitness.
Some can’t leave the camp because they are unable to walk because of injury or ill health.
Another man said it is too dangerous if you do not have a friends place to go to.
Many chose not to go out.

“I just come back from Transfield office and they told me that every one in the camp can go out without sign.
It is free open now for all asylum seekers in the island .”
