Maori-led protests against the closure of Aboriginal communities will be held ahead of Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s visit to New Zealand next week.

Mr Abbott will visit Wellington on Monday for an Australian dedication at the National War Memorial at Pukeahu Park.

A rally will be held in Auckland on Saturday, with further rallies across New Zealand to coincide with a national day of action in Australia on May 1.

Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell told Maori radio station Radio Waatea the issue of community closures is one Maori can identify with.
