Foco Nuevo starting up for 2015

FOCO NUEVO IN FEBRUARY

Happy New Year to all our supporters, we wish you well for 2015.

We returned to Australia from a trip to Cuba and Mexico, just in time to vote and be part of the dramatic turn of events in Queensland politics, setting the scene for a special atmosphere for Foco Nuevo with guest artists who are sure to mark the occasion; Kabuki Kombi, and Ian Dearden. We hope you can come along!

Kabuki Kombi:Entertaining, quirky, a bit irreverent and occasionally poignant, Kate and Bernard write songs that butter a bit of pop on top of a rich cake of gypsy jazz rhythms and anything else that takes their fancy. Their narrative lyrics draw on every day life, people they’ve met and the occasional TV show but are always written with a wry grin.

Kate and Bernard came together through their shared love of cabaret and theatre. Each recognised the other as a kindred wanderer and have created Kabuki Kombi to explore their passion for song writing.

Ian Dearden: For the past 40 years, Ian Dearden has been a passionate musical performer. From his high school rock band to university folk clubs, in solo, duo and band configurations, he has performed and busked at clubs, pubs & festivals throughout Australia, UK, Ireland, Europe and the USA. Ian’s skilled guitar playing, heartfelt singing, and a repertoire that includes original, traditional and contemporary songs never fails to engage.

Ian’s performance will feature songs from his debut album, What Took You So Long? released in December 2014, a distillation of his 40 years of songwriting and performing.

Jumping Fences: Fresh from their trip to Cuba, the song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk, along with the band, will be playing their energetic folk, tinged with Cuban flavours. Their original works contain imagery and styles that reveal both an incisive insight into Australian life and a long association with Latin American culture. [website]
