Dear Nuclear Free Friends,
Our friends in NT have called a National Day of Action against the proposed nuclear waste dump on Muckaty – for Friday June 20 – the first day of the Federal Court trial in Darwin when the last court applicant Lorna Fejo takes the stand.
In the NT we have called for a National Day of Action in support of Muckaty mob in the Federal Court fighting the waste dump for June 20 – the first day of the trial in Darwin when the last court applicant Lorna Fejo takes the stand.
Lorna Fejo is 86 this year and has spent her life fighting for rights to country, she was part of the fight for the original land claim over Muckaty in the 80s and 90s and has been a lifetime campaigner for the rights of Stolen Gens children like herself moved off country to Darwin. Its a travesty that she has to be cross-examined by the Commonwealth and NLC lawyers over her right to speak about Muckaty, but bound to be alot of media attention on the case at that time as she is quite well-known around the Top End.
It would be great if we could hold an action/event in Brisbane – and other parts of Qld. Not much time for us to organise – but would be great if we could get a union motion passed and have a film night – or targeted action somewhere – or an event you suggest…
Unions NT have endorsed a motion which I have attached, that could be used to build support with local unions and other groups.
