As the Qld government makes motions to open a uranium mining industry in this state, the anniversary of the ongoing disaster at Fukushima serves as a timely reminder of the dangers of the nuclear industry…
The Fukushima Delegation will share firsthand accounts and experiences of the Fukushima nuclear disaster that occurred following the Tsunami that devastated East Japan on March 11, 2011. Today, families continue to deal with the stress, upheaval and break down as over 150, 000 people have been forced to leave their homes, communities and businesses.
HASEGAWA KENICHI (JPN): Mr Hasegawa is the leader of Maeda District in Iitate Village, which has been totally evacuated following the nuclear disaster of March 11, 2011.
AKIRA KAWASAKI (JPN): Akira Kawasaki is an Executive Committee member of the Tokyo-based NGO Peace Boat, and a Co-Chair of International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
TOMOHIRO MATSUOKA (AUS): Accompanying the tour from within Australia is Mr Tomohiro Matsuoka, from the Melbourne based organization, Japanese for Peace.

Australian uranium fuelled Fukushima. As the reactors continue to pose a risk to the environment, townships remain evacuated and the public looks for answers, we gather to remember the tragedy and look its ongoing implications for all of us.
Never again….
On March 11, 2011, a devastating tsunami hit the east coast of Japan, triggering the meltdown of local nuclear reactors, adding an ongoing radioactive legacy to the numerous sufferings of the community in that region and beyond.
Now, three years on, Queensland is facing a nuclear crisis of its own – the Newman government”s plan to open uranium mines in this state.
In the shadow of this disaster, the anniversary of the Fukushima disaster serves as a timely reminder of the real dangers of the nuclear industry.
