Foco Nuevo continues to bring the best of local artists in Brisbane with our guest musicians this month being Caroline Hammond and The Phil Monsour Band. Jumping Fences will be playing as well, with Robbie Stewart on lead guitar while Ross Gwyther is on holiday.

earthiness, influenced by a diverse range of musical styles from Blues, to Gospel, Reggae, African ‘hi-life’ and Coffeehouse folk. Caroline has been playing around Brisbane for some time now, contribution percussion and vocals to bands such as ‘The Jar’, ‘Mic Traver’s Celtic Beat’ and ‘McTrustry & Hammond’. A longtime study of Afro-Cuban Percussion has made it’s mark on her unique acoustic guitar style, complementing her performance of original works with great depth of feeling. Caroline is joined by creative and versatile guitarist Craig Claxton and Suzanne Hibbs, a percussionist with wonderful feel and energy. [website].

The Phil Monsour Bandformed in 2008 to record and promote the Empires

New Clothes CD. Performing a blend of acoustic rock, the music provides a powerful vehicle for Phil Monsours socially conscious lyrics.

The band features a line up of highly accomplished and experienced performers including Jon Lloyd on Drums and Percussion, Graham Jackson on Guitar and Vocals, Ian Kimber on Bass and Vocals and Phil Monsour on Guitar and Vocals.

Ian and Phil spent many years together in the touring line up of the folk rock band Popproperly. Graham and Jon have also worked with Phil on projects in the past. Ian still fronts Popproperly.

The Phil Monsour Band perform regularly locally and interstate and are currently recording their second album to be released in 2011 [website].

Jumping Fences: the song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk will be playing their unique mix of original and Latin American songs, performing with Robbie Stewart on lead guitar, Dan Simpson on drums and James Harper on percussion. There will also be guest appearance from Koji Matsunobu on Shakuhachi, and Khin Yee Lo on violin, fresh from a recording session with Sue and Lachlan. [website]
