BYO

After Easter and the Labour Day long weekends, the music continues at Foco Nuevo with our guests, Pirate Brides and Noel Gardner.

Pirate Brides

Pirate Brides: are Ryk Rostron, Rose Broe, John Holmberg and Markus Karlsen.

The ‘Brides’ sweet harmony sound and distinctive arrangements are grounded in the Irish, Australian and American traditions. Their music is a treasure chest of contemporary acoustic originals through to Roots Country, Bluegrass, Celtic and Old Time – all backed by lively and tasteful instrumentation on accordion, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, guitar, and double bass.

The Pirates are a well-loved fixture in the Brisbane acoustic music scene, playing regularly at folk clubs, fetes, concerts, sessions, private functions, and local and national festivals. They have recorded three CDs, and receive airplay on ABC radio. Their songs are catchy, accessible, and delivered with an infectious love of the music, a touch of humour, fabulous vocals and great musicianship.[website]

Noel Gardner sings and writes from the heart. He paints images with words and music that evoke a passion for our environment and social justice issues. His songs of life also have a poignancy and depth that resonate with audiences. As well as having won an Australian Songwriters Award and been placed second and third in other years, Noel has been a Q music and Music Oz finalist.

Noel Gardner

His voice and gentle guitar create what has been described as – ‘powerful messages in a velvet glove of music. [website]

Jumping Fences; the song-writing partnership of Lachlan Hurse and Sue Monk, play a unique mix of original and Latin American songs, bridging the gap between Australian and World music. Their songs, heard from Brisbane factories to concerts in Havana, have evocative lyrics with compelling vocals and rhythm to match. We’ll be playing with Ross Gwyther on sax and clarinet and our percussion team; James Harper and Dan Simpson. [website]

Hope to see you there,
