North Stradbroke Island is a wonderful place: beautiful beaches and a wild interior very few have experienced. The Premier has announced that by 2027, 80% of the island will be made National Park and mining will be phased out. However, over the coming 16 years sandmining will continue to destroy pristine country now slated to be National Park.
How can we ensure the island is best protected?
Conservationists are calling for the cancellation of over 20 mining leases that have expired.
Dr Jan Aldenhoven will present a visual tour of the Island’s treasures and what’s at stake for the future. Jan is a biologist
and internationally renowned wildlife filmmaker who lives
on the island. Jan will be speaking on behalf of Wildlife Queensland (Wildlife Research Group).
