How is it that we can see such uplifting dances as ‘Of Earth and Sky’ and witness NAIDOC week become a national institution but can’t get anywhere near justice for Mulrunji and the Palm Island people?
This contradiction was highlighted again this week when a small group of people gathered outside the Supreme Court of Qld in Brisbane to witness police union delay attempts to have an open inquiry into Mulrunji’s death and the police cover-up that occurred after.
The police union lawyer Tim Carmody (SC) admitted to the court on 6th July 2010 that he did not understand how the legislation set up after Fitzgerald worked but felt quite at home making his own conclusions about how it should work for his clients, the police who conspired with Hurley to cover-up Mulrunji’s murder by police.
Meanwhile outside Murri community members called for the police involved in the cover-up of Mulrunji’s murder be charged.
All the while Lex Wotton who begged his people with the words ‘Common people we can’t accept this’ remains in Stuart Creek Prison in Townsville.
Things have got so bad on Palm with the police that the community has had to set up a Murri Watch program to protect Murris from the Queensland police service. In this short video of the rally Sam Watson makes an announcement about this positive step

The judicial system is being corruptly used to deny justice for Mulrunji and Lex Wotton. The police union is making its own laws to defend a murderer. The Crime and Misconduct commission has become an instrument of lawyers corruptly making a living out of the misery and death of others. It was not just one person who was killed on Palm. Cameron Doomadgee’s son committed suicide rather than live in a land without is father where justice is a game. Three other members of his family have died because of what has happened since 19 Nov 2004.
Lex Wotton’s children have grown up seeing their father’s life destroyed because he stood up. Six years later Lex and his family are still paying the penalty of a corrupt judicial system.
