In Bil’in, a village in western Ramallah, Israelis used force to disperse demonstrators, injuring dozens and asphyxiating two.
On Monday, 25 July [2008], a video was broadcast revealing Isreali forces deliberately shooting at Palestinians, who were participating in a peaceful march against the Wall.
These groups are for unity and a secular opposition to the settlements. Their leaders are in jail, many have been killed.

A report from al jazeera in Bil’in
Equally, the protesters, marching from the village of Bilin, are regularly met with a violent response from the Israeli army.
“The village of Bilin is literally on the frontline of Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land and the construction of its separation barrier,” Jacky Rowland, Al Jazeera’s correspondent reporting from the village, said.
“Later today the villagers of Bilin will protest the fact that not only they, but also five neighbouring villages, have lost their land which has been seized to build an Israeli settlement.
Netanyahu is set to approve plans to build hundreds of new homes on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, before considering US demands for a construction freeze.

Among tear gas and injuries, Bil’in celebrates victory

[Editors Note: Thanks to Anas for the links. He has reminded us of our past which is important. The first Palestinian Human Rights Group in Brisbane was set up after the massacres at Shabra & Shatilla in 1982 which organised a rally in King George Square. This is not to say that this was the first solidarity action with the Palestinians in Brisbane. I remember there was a forum organised at the University of Queenalnd in 1974 or 75 to put the Palestinian point of view. However it is true to say that 1982 was the first time in Brisbane that a section of the Labor party ALP or the Communist Party of Australia CPA made any real attempts to understand the Palestinian cause.
I have posted the YouTube clips that Anas sent below. The contents of the second clip are graphic and not for viewing by children, becasue these were horrors done to children by the state of Israel. These horrors are too great.

Hi all,
There will be a Justice for Palestine meeting tomorrow, Wednesday Sept 16, at 6:30pm in the TLC Building (2nd floor), 16 Peel St, South Brisbane.
It is only one month to go until the Palestinian Days Film Festival, so it would be great to have all hands on deck to help out with the final preparations and publicity efforts. The meeting will also finalise plans for the September 25 rally.
Please come along!
in solidarity,
Kathy
